Feeling Grateful this Season

Practicing Gratitude: Helping Those in Need

This Thanksgiving, we are all thinking about those affected by the California fires. This post is dedicated to helping those in need. It includes ways we can all help, as well as links to organizations to help those with an immediate need.

At this time of year, we are reminded to be grateful for all we have. It is easy to take the smallest things for granted: a fridge full of food, an overflowing closet with too many shoes, running water, electricity, blank paper within arm's reach, and a steady internet connection and cell service.

But when I see the massive devastation caused by the fires, I realize those are all things thousands of people just lost and my gratitude level suddenly skyrockets for my own blessings as much as my heart sinks for those who are suffering.

All of us at Alain Pinel feel their loss. We see the joy every day of finding people their dream homes, so we know how traumatic these losses can be. For that reason, in lieu of our company Christmas party this year, we are holding an internal auction fundraiser amongst ourselves with all of the proceeds going to support the fire victims.

If you are similarly moved to help those in need, I’m including some helpful links below.

American Red Cross: They offer shelter and money to those in need and are always one of the quickest organizations to help those displaced by fires and other natural disasters. They exist solely on monetary donations from the general public and do not receive any government funding. You can help by calling 1-800-RED CROSS, by texting the words RED CROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation, or by going here: https://www.redcross.org/

Visit 211.org or dial 211 from your phone: They provide contact information of all local resources for those in need, be it food, clothing, help with rent or utilities, etc. http://www.211.org/

Consumer Reports has compiled a list of agencies vetted by the three charity watchdogs, as well as tips on avoiding donation scams. You can read it here: https://www.consumerreports.org/charities/how-to-help-those-affected-by-california-wildfires/

Please share this post with your social networks to help get the information out to others.

From my family to yours, we wish you all a grateful Thanksgiving.

Warm regards,

Cindy
